HCTA Codes of Conduct
​​Players Code of Conduct
-
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of players, officials and spectators.

Refrain from conduct, which could be regarded as harassment or insulting towards fellow players.

Respect the talent of fellow players and competitors.
-
Conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper and punctuality.
-
Maintain high personal behaviour standards at all times.
-
Abide by the rules and respect the decision of the umpire, match referee or other adjudicator.

Don’t criticise your partner, offer encouragement.
-
Call your line calls and let your opponent hear the call.
-
Always respect the line calls of your opponent.
-
If there is a disagreement, offer to play the point again.
-
Neat tennis attire is required.

Parent/Carer Code of Conduct

We warmly welcome you to the Hume Country Tennis Association.
-
Your child’s and parents behaviour reflects on the Hume Country Tennis Association so we encourage good sportsmanship, on and off the court.
-
We warmly encourage parents to attend and supervise behaviour.
-
Treat your child the same, irrespective of them winning or losing.
-
Remember that your child plays tennis for their enjoyment, not yours.
-
Look relaxed, calm and positive on the side lines.
-
Make friends with other parents at competitions.
-
Get involved in appropriate ways if your child behaves in unacceptable ways.

Give encouragement at all times.

If a junior player is exhibiting unacceptable behaviour on the court, then it is the responsibility of the child’s parent or supervisor of that team to council that player. A parent or supervisor of the opposition team should not converse with the misbehaving junior player directly, but communicate their concerns with the opposition supervisors.

Juniors Code of Conduct

Respect your opponents and always try your best.
-
A ball hitting the line is called IN.
-
If both you and the opposition are unsure of any point, play the point again.
-
Return balls to the player who is serving carefully and directly to them.
-
If your ball is on the other court, wait for their point to finish before collecting it.
-
Congratulate your opponents when they play a good shot.
-
It is the responsibility of all players to keep the score during the set.
-
Thank your opponents at the end of the set, shake hands and verbally agree on the final score.

Bad language will not be tolerated.
-
Enjoy your tennis and have fun.

Coaches Code of Conduct

Treat all students with respect at all times. Be honest and consistent with them.
-
Provide feedback to students and other participants in a caring sensitive manner to their needs. Avoid overly negative feedback.

Treat all students fairly within the context of their sporting activities, regardless of gender, race, place of origin, athletic potential, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political beliefs, socio-economic status, and other condition.

Encourage and facilitate students’ independence and responsibility for their own behaviour, performance, decisions and actions.
-
Encourage students to respect one another and to expect respect for their worth as individuals regardless of their level of play.

Actively discourage the use of performance enhancing drugs, the use of alcohol and tobacco and illegal substance.

At all times act as a role model that promotes the positive aspects of sport and of tennis by maintaining the highest standards of personal conduct and projecting a favourable image of tennis and of coaching at all times.

Know and abide by tennis rules, regulations and standards, and encourage students to do likewise. Accept both the letter and the spirit of the rules.

Be open to other people’s opinion and willing to continually learn and develop

Administrators Code of Conduct

Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealing with others

Be professional in, and accept responsibility for your actions. Your language, presentation, manners and punctuality should reflect high standards

Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with persons under 18 years of age, as your words and actions are an example

Resolve conflicts fairly and promptly through established procedures
